It seems that other spheres of endeavour, other microcosms, have the same apparent effect when all goals are abandoned. Awakening is ever thus.

I suppose the terms "goal" and "separate individual" could be interchanged.
Geez, MOST of them can be interchanged, then some apparent individuals take umbrage and start narrowing the concepts; "awareness" vs. "consciousness" is a good example.
Well. Who cares? Exactly.
Yes, ultimately no matter how accurate a chain of pointers may be it's all just words.
