What Are You, Charlie Brown?

What are you? You cannot really know. Look beneath the simple surface of "Of course I know, my name is Charlie Brown; I live on 123 Old Elm Street; I come from a long line of Browns". Beneath all that simple surface noise what can you find? There is the hidden life of Charlie Brown. There are the habits and the likes and dislikes of Charlie Brown. That's all the tastes, the thoughts and beliefs that Charlie Brown identifies with. But what's beneath that? There is the body. There are organs and bones, there are cellular structures, there are elements; molecules, atoms, protons, neutrons electrons, there are quarks. What are all those? Can you call them Charlie Brown? And if you are ultimately quarks, or light energy, or mind, or consciousness, or whatever, what are those? And where do those aspects exist? Is there a time and space where they exist? Where is this time? Where is this space?

So, what are you really, Charlie Brown?

And when you go outside with Snoopy's food and watch your pup wag up with excitement, eyes glinting with loving hunger (hungry love?), just what is this magical event? What is Snoopy? What is food? what is the warmth of sunshine, smells, sights, sounds, touch, taste? What is excitement, hunger, love? You can say all scientifically, "Well, my dog Snoopy, his food, the sunshine, the senses, all these are atomic energy inter-playing within my experience". And you can say "Excitement, hunger, love, these are the emotional reactions to the elements as they interact with the senses". O.K. then, what the hell IS all that Mr. Smartypants, Charlie Brown? Just what the heaven are you Mr. Brown?

And as you step out into the sun, Snoopy running at your feet, looking up, hungrily loving (loving hunger?), when and where does this event happen? One step in the miraculous fullness of these changing phenomena disappears, and another begins and simultaneously ends, and on and on and on. Where and when are these passing moments Charlie Brown? Where and when do they exist? To where and when did they go? Will they ever appear again? No! Were they ever even here, Charlie Brown?

Just what in heaven/hell is this, and just what the awful, awesome, mind blowing beautitude are you, Charlie Brown?

Clarifying an earlier post (some of my posts are beyond help;-)

Someone somewhere referred to my December 30th post, 'Lila', as "Sticking one's head in the sand".

No problem, I understand that position.

But what I wrote was from a point of view of being disengaged from the dream manifestation of things and events, unattached from the karma of a separate individual.

Here is that earlier post:

"Karma is the dream that never completes, because karma has never begun. It appears within the oceanic timelessness of being as the play of consciousness manifestation."


Look into karma and see that it is not merely a concrete, conceptual experience of the suffering of an individual person in a universe of time and space.

The appearance of an individual who suffers karma in time and space is all together the same illusion, or distorted view.

Of course there is 'karma'. As an example, pain reeling through as energetic, bodily event, is direct karmic experience that perhaps cannot be avoided. But it needn't be known narrowly as a thing that happens to a "me", with the conceptual/emotional attachment that binds to perpetuation of suffering.

Karma is the ever changing, and in a sense never actually existing, expression of cosmic consciousness,

The Big Bang

Karma belongs to no one but all that is, because there is no one but all that is. Karma is the fluidic appearance of all that is manifesting within the absolute.

Humility of Arrogance; Arrogance of Humility

Humility and arrogance come and go within awareness. Neither of them, or any other experience can define the magic and majesty of this being that you are. Look into them and see that they have no independent self-substance, but are dependent upon each-other. Look deeper and see that they appear to be in your field of experience, but upon closer observation are not really there as things that have lasting definition or lasting importance to themselves. They are concepts. When they are seen as concepts of a momentary perception that have no independent power to stand up as any real and lasting definition of your self, then they can be released as quickly as they appear. There really is no humility or arrogance beyond a momentary perception of an energetic stance that can possibly define the magic and majesty of this mystery that you are. In arrogance there is humility, in humility there is arrogance. This way they are seen as ephemeral waves that hold no power over the mysterious beauty that is this presence of awareness. Humility and arrogance are merely aspects of all that appears and disappears within the beautiful being that you truly are.

Q: What is Faster Than Mind?

This oneness itself has been named countless names, including original mind.

Because all that is already is this oneness itself, then there is nothing that could ever be a movement beyond it.

If there is a movement of mind then it is the movement that is the all-pervading stillness, being this oneness itself, that is all that is.

So no, there is nothing faster than mind, because mind is always being the absolute oneness that this is.

Knowing this is being this and is the movement that already always is.

An Idea

Folly is any attempt to claim an idea as originating from 'my mind',

because 'my mind' is merely an idea in the sky of original mind,

There is no time but being itself, which cannot be measured.

Life and Death

The appearance of life and death is just a hobby.

All of the story of good and bad, pain and pleasure, seems to come and go.

It is all quite entertaining.

The 'I' and the getting caught up are the same fixation.

Beneath the 'I am'

Looking beneath the 'I am' to what is seeing

it is discovered that the looking and the seeing are one.

'I am' and all its baggage are merely thoughts.

There is only the absolute

There is only the absolute.

Supreme intelligence radiates from and as the absolute.

I have seen such countless births and deaths, or beginnings and endings of this so-called person to know that the me is not real in any sense of being a separate entity with its own, personal self substance.

In fact the appearance of a phantom self within its phantom world is born and dies so often that there is no fixed beginning or fixed ending that can be seen to actually exist.

There is such constant changing of the phantom appearance that it proves to be just a light and shadow show.

Three More

The world does not yield to changing. By its very nature it is painful and transient. See it as it is and divest yourself of all desire and fear. When the world does not hold and bind you, it becomes an abode of joy and beauty. You can be happy in the world only when you are free of it.


When somebody dies, nothing happens. Something becomes nothing. Nothing was, nothing remains.


It is the changing that dies. The immutable neither lives nor dies; it is the timeless witness of life and death. You cannot call it dead, for it is aware. Nor can you call it alive, for it does not change.

A thought doesn't exist independently, just as nothing exists independently. A thought is always changing in the expanse of mind as a cloud moves in the sky; part of the sky, but never a thing with any permanence whatsoever. Look deeply into a thought and it will prove to be undefinable; incomprehensible. Actually, a thought never really exists as we think it does. So where does that leave us? Thoughtless? Ha ha ha ha

Nothing can completely describe or illustrate the source of all because everything that appears is merely a phantom expression of that mystery.

Expressions and descriptions occur nonetheless.

Focusing on thoughts spins an illusion of a 'me' in 'time'.

This is It

The miracle unfolding right here, right now, is the absolute, divine intelligence, God, or whatever you like to call It.

There are no 'things' and 'God', no 'people' and 'God', no 'me' and 'you' and 'God'.

There is nothing but this absolute, divine intelligence, and there's no definitive way to place a description on it as it miraculously unfolds in, as and around us.

The divine approaches the divine within the unfolding miracle of the divine.

Right here, right now, is all that there is. Right here right now is ever impermanent.

Absolute divine intelligence is right here, right now in and as everything appearing and disappearing.

You can't put your finger on it. You can't put a label on it.

This is it.

End of Karma

You are not only what you appear to be,

a separate entity living amongst other separate entities.

You are the entire universe,

and even beyond that.

Your Life is the Gift

There is no state of security for the individual.

Look into this.

Memories fade. Change is constant. The body will die.

There is no stopping these.

Your life is the gift.

Investigate

Inquire, investigate, look into whatever presents, whatever appears.

Nothing is passed up, all is looked into until the looking transforms into a new inquiry.

'See' whatever you look into is made of a fantastic eruption of consciousness energy from emptiness.

Objects, people, emotions, thoughts, sounds, sights, smells, sensations, tastes, likes and dislikes, everything, nothing, all of this is the self into which inquiry opens.

Look wholly with the entirety of what is available, of what you have access to.

Being inquires into Being.

See For Yourself

All the wonderful books, the words, the pointers, the talks, the teachers, the teachings, the blessings, the satsangs, all are immediately ripped up, set afire and dumped in the ash can of dreaming.

In fact any and all experience whether wonderful or horrible are already gone.

Where are they now?

They don't exist beyond thoughts.

You are the truth in which all experience occurs.

Eternity, Infinity, Impermanence

Right here, right now, is found infinity and eternity. Where else are these qualities found?

Except in imagination, no other place and time can be found.

Here and now is also found impermanence.

Eternity, infinity, impermanence of appearance, none of these qualities are separate and distinct.

All 'things' appear and disappear eternally and infinitely.

From what do they appear and disappear?

What observes this?

Impermanence

Anything that appears within experience proves to be impermanent.

Some things appear to be more permanent than others, but ultimately when looked into they are also seen to be impermanent.

When everything is looked through and seen to be impermanent, what is left?

Are you still 'here' ?

This Is It

Nothing ever happened.

From where does anything come and to where does anything go?

This is it.

Direct Experience

Direct experience.

Nothing else.

What else is there?

Imagination, thought, belief, all appear in direct experience.

See What Happens

Universe, God, Oneness, whatever label is used to describe the

indescribable, that One is embodied in appearance.

Appearance is eternally infinite.

Every Thing is Impermanent

Every thing is impermanent.

Grasping impermanence is bondage to suffering.

Even in thoughts are made prisons of belief.

Attempting to not grasp is grasping the attempt to not grasp.

Any endeavor to free oneself is suffering because it is a grasping of a desire to be free from grasping and suffering.

That there appears to be one who could grasp or not grasp is a key to the puzzle, as in the grasping and an identity as a personal, separate self are the same energetic expression.

But actually nothing can be done or not done.

What seems to be doing or not doing just happens, to no one, whether or not there appears to be a someone.

Nothing really matters or doesn't matter in impermanence because nothing really happens or doesn't happen

to no one.

When Thoughts Have Vanished

When thoughts have vanished nothing is right or wrong, there is just this as it is. Everything appears in a whole mysterious freshness, a newness. A depth of being is revealed as present, not hidden, not beneath a veneer of illusory labeling, and everything loses its description because the fog or veil of conceptualism has never been, can never have been. No feelings of tiredness or awakeness, or any other feelings that make a personal story. What were dishes being washed is still happening, perhaps, or maybe not, but it is no longer dishes and no longer washing, and at the same time it is. Wonder and commonplace are merged into a richness of unexplainable, incapturable isness.

And then thoughts are once again center stage (or somewhere thereabouts I suppose, it doesn't much matter).

Appearances of Appearances

Sufferings and hobbies are just appearances of appearance in this show of illusion's reality.

Children starving appear to appear in this appearance too.

The show appears to go on as long as it appears to.

What to do?

Complete Mystery

Walking along the avenue with my kid in tow and looking at the people. 'They' are not 'me'. Every one of them different. Each one of them with a different expression and a different gesture considering me in their momentary posturing that is likely a habitual stance. 'Me', looking at 'them' out of a likewise habitual stance. What are they to me? A complete mystery. What am I to them? A complete mystery. What am I to myself? Unknowingness. Mystery. Complete. That is what makes us the same. Our eyes shine the light of complete mystery. And vibrating in and as all place and moment the stunningness of this appearing with no possible hold or claim from any thing, because this unknowness is everything. Nothing can claim the mystery of this. All that is.

Artifact

Artifacts appear there stuck in the ground until I pick them up and study them to find out that they are still just artifacts.

An artifact (any thing, even a thought) exhibits the truth of the universe because all apparent things exhibit that. All things are completely the entire universe in that no thing exists separately.

So I can pick up an artifact and study it many different ways, looking at various infinite aspects all the way to the subatomic as far as measuring will allow. Doing this is what makes a thing an artifact.

There is nothing wrong of course with studying artifacts. What is already remains when that is done.

A mystery.

Every Thing is Impermanent

Every thing is impermanent. Grasping impermanence is bondage to suffering. Even in thoughts are made prisons of belief.

No Time

Time as we think of it is just that; thought. Thoughts of time appear in timeless being in which all things appear and disappear.

When we see what appears to be continuity of time it is an illusion.

Any thing that appears in this moment to have an association with another so-called past event is only that past event appearing now in the midst of anything and everything else appearing now. Meaning, there is no past event beyond what appears in this moment, be it a thought, a form, or whatever appears now in and as THIS.

What is appearing now is a unique energetic expression that manifests in timeless being.

Things seemingly past and present are already merged in essence as one and their uniqueness of expression appears as an infinite and eternal cascade, forming patterns that appear to be familiar and distinct at the same instant.

So in the story of a self that seems to exist independently from other selves and other things there also appears a concept of a past existence, of a continuity of a separate entity living apart from "others" with its own history. This is fine for the dreamer. But when awakening from the dream it is all seen as illusion. A passing show on its way back to nothing.

Look into the so-called past. Where is it? Where does it exist? In thought only. An artifact from the so-called past appears only in this moment with a dream story attached to it. The present moment never exists as time either. Where can it begin and stop? NOW?

There is no time as in past, present and future. Only timeless being. You are this timelesssness of being.

Forgiveness

I am you and you are me.

When you and I interact we complete a portion of each-others' reality.

Our experience of life is fulfilled in one another.

The world we perceive reflects what we know as ourselves.

So you are me and I am you.

I am you and me.

Surrender

The dream of the separate self is ever an act of surrender

This Whole Life Experience Is Sex

This whole life experience is sex.

Being created here can never be seperated from the sexual experience. From the moment these bodies are born to the moment they die THIS is a sexual experience.

These bodies are created out of sex and they vibrate with never-ending sensuality which includes sexual vibration. Sensuality feeds the body's needs for food and procreation. Out of that experience, unique to each bodily experience, arises self-expression.

Then, for humans the next layer of experience is self-consciousness. That's where the biblical account of the eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of right and wrong comes to play in the human experience.

Other animals don't eat from that tree which sprouts from the human mind of concepts of right and wrong which is layered on top of the desires of a conceptual "I". That "I" concept is ultimately rooted in the needs for food and procreation. Animals don't have the concept of right and wrong. The survival and extension of bodily experience becomes a concept in the human mind called self-consciousness. Animals eat and procreate. Humans do too, but also entertain concepts of those acts as related to a conceptual self.

So really, like the animals, all of life experience includes sexuality, along with the need to consume food. Even if we try to shut it out the sexual urge is never missing from the human experience. In a sense, everyone we come into contact with is involved with us in a sexual experience. It cannot be denied or escaped because it is intimately wrapped in the body's life experience.


How's this for a thought?:

Because these bodies are wired as a never-ending sensual experience to nourish and replicate themselves, then on an underlying level we are "consuming" and "making love" with everyone and everything we meet. Our bodies are ever seeking nourishment and reproduction.It is just the process that comes natural to being a human animal.

Ever New Now

There is no past, no future and no concrete present when it comes to the phenomenal world. If someone disagrees then they can try and show me where and when things existed, will exist, or exist now. Even things now are ever changing from moment to moment.

I have been working on understanding that ALL possibilities exist simultaneously. That has been somewhat difficult to realize because there is only presented an ever-shifting fluidity of experience that appears now, and now, and now. Any known possibilities are also contained in this here now as thought. I can only presume that unknown possibilities exist as well perhaps as unmanifest thought. The infinite possibilities are only that; infinite possibilities. They don't all appear together in a manifested way (not to my perception anyway).

Now it appears to be more clear that the phenomenal creation is always dynamically emerging from source. And because phenomena ARE ultimately source, then it is a constantly reinventing radiation of NOW.

So really, THIS appears as ultimate possibility. All thoughts of past present and future appear in this ultimate possibility. THIS appears to have time-space continuity, but really is in all ways the one original expression of source.

Source appears ever new, ever now and can be found as the underlying reality of the appearance of phenomenon.

Where and when is any of THIS happening?

Where and when is any of THIS happening?

The dishes are being washed, the sunlight shines through the window, the fly lands and then takes off, and all along where and when does any of THIS happen?

Thoughts form and dissapate. Feelings in the body rise and fall. Where and when do these occur?

Here and now?

Is there anything other than here and now?

Where is the past and future? Do the past and future really ever exist?

And here and now is such a phantom. In a sense it never really exists because here and now is always gone, ever to be replaced with here and now.

What are you? Do you exist here and now? Is THIS event that never really exists yet is simultaneously all there really is what you are?

What are you? What is here and now? What is THIS?

Are you THIS?

Are you the ultimate mystery?

You Are Forever

When is forever? Right now is forever.

Where does right now begin and end? Right now never begins and never ends.

What is right now? Right now is what you are.

What you are is forever.

Auto Body Shop

Ever notice how an individual's car looks like them? Like when driving around you see people who are behind the wheels of vehicles that seem to be extensions of themselves? One could explain that they choose cars that look like them. One might say that it is coincidence. Another might go so far as to say it is a symbiosis of similar energetic patterns; the person's and the vehicle's energies attracting and matching up, which is what I have thought for awhile now. But I've been thinking lately that it is more than merely a cohesive matching of energetic patterns. I have seen it as an even more unified thing. Neither the person nor the vehicle is a separate energetic pattern, and what is seen as an interesting matchup is actually one energetic expression. The car would not look like it does alone without the individual and vice versa. And taking it further one can see that there really is no such thing as a separate energetic expression meeting another one in all the landscape of the moment and everything matches just perfectly in the universe, though perhaps judged in a dualistic sense in the human mind scheme of things.

Making Things Out Of Thought Is Illusion

It's best not to try and make anything out of anything because things are just of the mind of thoughts.

The mind of thoughts is an endless chase after things, or thought after thought. That is the function of the mind of thoughts.

Watch the thoughts gather and dissipate like clouds upon a mountain peak.

Ultimately the core thought of a "me" fades as well and freedom is recognized as the original mind, or the awareness behind all appearances and "things".

Who or what is watching? Your true nature. The underlying awareness that is the source of all appearance.

There is no thing that stands alone as a separate reality.

Grasping at things, or thoughts, is a cause of suffering.

This Is All There Is, Timeless Being

This is all there is, there is no other. If there is something other than what is being experienced right now then show it to yourself. Where else is anything really happening? When else are thoughts and memories occuring? The only thing that can be said for sure is that this is happening here, right now. The thought that something else is happening to someone else somewhere else is only a thought happening right here and now. You can call a friend and they can verify that they are doing something else somewhere else, but when you make that call what your friend tells you is only happening right here and now.

All is merely an appearance happening right here and now. This is all there is. There is no other. Nothing lasts but the here and now which is timeless Being.

Where Are You? What Is This?

A good exercise for looking into what you are compared to what passes within you.

View any inanimate object in your immediate landscape. My son and I were just looking at a parking meter that stood out before us outside the University Library. So just choose something and have a look and ask yourself honestly and deeply:

Has that object ever existed before? Has it ever existed in some kind of a past? If you answer yes, then where and when is that past object and space in which it appeared? Can you locate such a thing and event?

Does that object ever exist in a future? If yes, then where and when does that object appear? Where is this object and space in which it appears? Is there ever a future in which such an event ever occurs and an object appears?

Is that object appearing now? If yes, then where is that object and space of now in which it appears? Can you ever fix such a thing in a present moment? Is there ever a now in which the object appears?

Are there really any things that appear ever? Or, are things just impermanence? Does any thing or any time ever really exist independently?

Upon seeing the non-existence of existence then look for your self. Where and when do you appear in these observations? Do you ever appear in all of this? Or does all of this seem to appear in you?

And No Religion Too

If anyone shows you a religion they say is structured around direct perception of Self, run the other way. There are no objects of ritual in nonduality, there is no hierarchy of god(s), no buildings or symbols. There is only the self-aware nakedness of Self perception. Pure direct experience of the totality of the awareness of self-nature. No body or no thing can ever stand in the way or demand anything of you for you to know yourself as the freedom of pure awareness. Everything appears in and as awareness itself. There is no other, there are no others. Organizations and gatherings of like-minded expressions of Self are just fine, so long as they are not structures of belief systems that have anything to do with other than friendship and fellowship in unadorned awareness. Religion is unnecessary. Awareness of self nature which is pure wisdom is the true, unfiltered compassion. From that all things are seen to because all things are known as the same Self in countless expression.

The Illusion of Birth and Death

If you see yourself as a someone having been born at some point in space and time, then you see yourself as a someone who will die at some point in space and time.

Look within, into your own experience of being for the event of your creation and you will see that you were never created.

Can you find a space and time of a birth?

If you see that you were never born you will see that you cannot die.

The only birth and death is of the mind of phantom thoughts.

You are timeless awareness.

You Are Always Free

No-one can ever own you for you are not a thing limited to concepts of birth and death. Can you find in your experience a beginning?

In The Way

Nature provides for itself because nature is The Way of the natural expression of life. For example, when hunger occurs, nature fulfills the whole scenario of hunger with all of the manifestations of the event.

Humans have constructed beliefs that attempt to fulfill the hungers of an assumed self that is seen as separate from nature. This is sometimes called an 'ego', a false self (false in that it appears to be a separate existence) created by a labyrinth of mental abstractions of repeated thoughts that revolve around a central "I" thought.

Human being can include the seeming act of being a matrix maker employing this conceptual way of being. Actions that stem from such identification in a believed in individual self are often labeled as 'evil', or just simply actions that are often done in ignorance of the true and natural Way. The ego "lives apart" from the harmonious flow of nature.

Being "in the way" leads to suffering.

Being in "The Way" opens to the realization of eternal bliss of Being.
